No, not the hat I am currently wearing 'cause I like that hat. Besides the cliche "throwing my hat in the ring," has been replaced with, "throwing my helmet in the ring," Most notably the one belonging to Colin Kaepernick.
Come on now, are we really going to change the line from Charlie Browns' Linus to “There are three things I have learned never to discuss with people...religion, politics, and the Great- Football.”
Let's take a step or two back,(Kinda like Charlie Brown when he is eyeing the football being held at a tilt by Lucy's finger.) and look at what these "Political Players" are protesting. P.P's for short.
In reality what they are actually protesting against, is their FREEDOM! to protest. Which is what the AMERICAN FLAG! represents. FREEDOM! No the AMERICAN FLAG does not represent oppression of any individual. It represents the FREEDOM! of US citizens to govern themselves, which translates into the FREEDOM! to police ourselves.
A method of policing determined by the citizens of individual states, cities and towns using the FREEDOM! represented by the AMERICAN FLAG! Those same citizens have the FREEDOM! to choose the leaders that pass the laws, ordinances, and policies that govern them. Meaning, that by proxy, the same American citizens also choose the very men and women who enforce the laws.
What they should be protesting is a method of enforcement they believe is oppressive; not the AMERICAN FLAG! Which is a symbol of the FREEDOM! that gives them the the right to peacefully protest. The key word being "peacefully." Instead they are siding with looters, rioters, flagburners, and those that knowingly curse and condemn the FREEDOM! our AMERICAN FLAG represents.
If they truly wish to protest a nations flag that represents oppression, then bring the flag of countries such as North Korea, Zimbabwe, Saudi Arabia, CANADA and the like, and let 'em burn 'em on the sidelines. I'm sure that the "neutral" powers of the NFL will allow that.
When did football players become Congress and stadiums become the White House, or the United States Capital, and, well, I guess the NFL Commissioner, he's the President of the United States.
Oh, wait a minute, I'm gonna' be the President of the United States, the Commissioner can be my Vice-President. Will somebody please tell Hillary and Donald to go home, that, uh, the seating arrangements in the Oval Office have already been worked out.
Where are the coaches that say, "Son, when you step on that field you're there to play football! All you need to be thinkin' about is how hard your gonna' hit your opponent! When you put on the pads you are going to play football! You are not to be thinking about your pretty little girlfriend or wondering what the oppressed people of the world are doing right now! You will have plenty of time for that when you are in your street clothes! Have you forgotten what it means to be a football player!
If they can protest so can I! I will not be watching one NFL game this season. Truthfully, I had already tired of the idiocy that abounds within the NFL; the flag protests merely cemented this decision. And as for the Seattle Seahawks we already knew they were a bunch of looney birds! Oh, and scratch CANADA off that list of oppressive nations. I gotta' watch real football from somewhere!
